It’s Monday! I’m submitting this post to The Children’s Bookshelf which happens every Monday.  Please go check it out.  You’ll find lots of people talking about children’s books they love.  I’m rather impressed with this site.

The Short:  I love this picture book and so does my husband and son.  It is a sweet, sweet book about realizing your dream and going forward with it even when the people around you think you’re being odd.  Liam, a pig, wants to be the Easter Bunny.  His parents love him just the way he is, but he feels he is not truly complete.  Fortunately, his grandparents come along and give him the support he needs to realize his dream.  We highly, highly recommend this book.  The illustrations are fun, the story is great, and all the characters are good.  There’s nothing for me to edit or change for my two-year-old son.

The Long: I realize that it is almost Thanksgiving and that it would make more sense for us to be reading books about turkeys, pilgrims, and whatnot.  Fortunately, my son doesn’t quite understand holidays yet, so he doesn’t feel affronted that we’re reading Easter books around Thanksgiving.

About the book:  If you ask Liam what he wants to be when he grows up, he’ll tell you:  The Easter Bunny.  He practices hopping, enjoying salads, and delivering eggs.  His parents aren’t exactly supportive of what he wants to be, but they are still very supportive of him.  They never call him crazy or make fun of him — which is nice.  Considering I am a parent now, I enjoy reading books where the parents aren’t the bad guys.  The parents aren’t encouraging him, but you can see why his parents aren’t gung-ho about it.  Fortunately Liam — he has his grandparents.  His grandparents are supportive and with the help of their internet prowess they are able to help Liam and everyone else believe in him.

My son has asked for me to read this book to him over and over.  It’s a fun book for us to read together and I think it sends a great message.  It also made me laugh out at times.  It’s a great read any time of the year.

    This looks like a really cute book! And we have a newish nephew child named Liam! I don’t think that he is a pig tho. But I can relate to Liam the pig — we sometimes have a hard time convincing people that dogs like to be read to!!
