Yesterday one of our picture books fell apart. We’ve read George Shrinks by William Joyce (Author’s website) so many times that it just couldn’t take it anymore. I sat there with the fallen book in my hands and thought what a waste to lose this book — the images are so beautiful. This inspired me to put some of the pages around the house.
I’m rather happy with how it turned out. It’s such a little thing, but it adds a new richness to the room. These prints make excellent and beautiful reminders to: Clean Your Room, Brush Your Teeth, Make Your Bed, and Water the Plants (among others).
It is a simple way of improving the beauty and literacy environment of our home and saving a wonderful picture book simultaneously.
What a great idea!

I love this idea! I’ve actually thought about buying old copies of books I love at the thrift store just so I can disassemble them and frame the art!

That’s a great idea! I’m definitely going to get some frames for these. I’ll never look at a dilapidated picture book the same way. 🙂

Makes me think of the Velveteen Rabbit – loved so much that it fell apart and became “real”!

This is a truly inspired post and a great way to keep on loving a book even after it’s in pieces. It could be a fun way to repurpose neat old cards as well.
