Valeri Gorbachev is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I randomly picked up one of his other books, Heron and Turtle, at the library the other day and my 26 month old son had me read it to him again and again. We’ve read this book every day for the past week.
Today we read, Shhh! probably 5 or 6 times. It is about a little boy who has to be quiet while his baby brother sleeps. It is beautifully illustrated and get this, the little boy says, “Please” every time he requests for someone to stop making noise. So often in picture books I have found that the characters rarely say, “please” or “thank you.” It is always refreshing when the characters are kind and polite.
It was great to be able to just read this book straight through. No edits needed.
This book has a beautifully sweet ending and promotes love. It was a joy to read again and again and again.
Apparently Mr. Gorbachev has written over 50 books. I’m looking forward to reading them and I’m sure my son is, too.
