From the creators of Creepy Carrots!, comes Creepy Pair of Underwear!, a hilarious and exciting picture book that delivers the perfect amount of thrills and giggles for all.
In Creepy Carrots!, we last saw our hero, Jasper, victorious in protecting himself from stalker carrots. Now, in Creepy Pair of Underwear!, Jasper is back and this time he needs new underwear! Jasper and his loving mother head to the store to get them. She responsibly buys him not one, not two, but three packages of normal, boring, non-threatening plain, white undies. They’re about to leave the store when behold!!!! Jasper sees a huge display of glowing, green, Frankenstein’s-monster-themed underwear. He’s taken in. He basks in the glow of their creepiness and knows that he must have them. “So Creepy! So Comfy!”
Mom’s not so sure, but come on, they’re underwear! What’s the harm in getting just one pair? Besides, creepy or not, it’ll make him happy. She agrees.
Jasper brings the pair home and puts it on; he’s going to wear the creepy underwear to bed! He’s such a big rabbit now that he doesn’t even need for his dad to leave the hallway light on! Boo-yah! He is totally winning at being a big rabbit.
Alone in the dark, he discovers that his underwear is glowing a, “ghoulish, greenish glow.” He tries to shut out the glow, but when he can’t do that, he puts on a new pair of white undies, puts the creepy underwear in the hamper, and calls it a night.
But terrifyingly enough, he wakes up the next morning and finds that somehow he’s wearing the creepy underwear again! Gah!!! How did that happen?
Well, it won’t happen again. Jasper throws them away! He’s done messing around with creepy underwear.
Whew! Jasper and his readers can now breathe a sigh of relief.
But not for long…
When Jasper comes home from school he hears scraping and scratching… and it is coming from his dresser! Impossibly, he finds the creepy pair of underwear is back! This won’t do. He literally packs them up and sends them to China, cuts them up into little pieces, but shockingly and creepily — they keep coming back! Each time the creepy underwear returns, it elicits more and more delighted and slightly scared squeals and giggles from its readers.
Resolved, Jasper takes an extreme measure and finally succeeds in preventing the undies from coming back. He’s feeling good, he’s ready for bed, he turns out the light, and all is well.
But it is not until he is alone at night in the pitch black of his room that he realizes that it is really dark – even if he is a big rabbit. What’s a bunny to do?
Fortunately for us readers, Jasper was written as a very clever and capable character. He comes up with a wonderfully creative solution that brings a fun and satisfying conclusion for Jasper, his creepy underwear, and his brave readers.
Creepy Pair of Underwear! will have you and your little ones laughing from the announcing of the title to the very end. The Twilight-Zone-esque, black-and-white scenes dramatically exaggerate the creepy underwear’s bright green glow. The constantly changing Frankenstein’s monster faces on the underwear give an extra dash of humor and lightheartedness. The gentle scariness, the mysteriousness of how the underwear keeps coming back, and the happy ending makes it a fantastic book for the whole family to snuggle up and read again and again.
Be careful though, turn you back on your family after reading this book to them, even for a second, and you may just find yourself getting hit with a flying pair of underwear and little ones gleefully shouting, “Creepy Pair of Underwear is out to get you! Ahhhhh!”*
Creepy Pair of Underwear! is masterfully styled and combines suspense, light spookiness, and winning humor to deliver a laugh-out-loud and genuinely fun story. No need to save this book for Halloween, Creepy Pair of Underwear! is a blast to read aloud most any day of the year.
