Pugs in a Bug by Carolyn Crimi and Illustrated by Stephanie Buscema.
This is fun book about a bunch of pugs riding around in a VW beetle. My husband had a beetle in high school and so I always look upon them with fondness.
The illustrations are bright and dare I say it… sassy. I mean, where else are you going to see a french bulldog riding a unicycle and holding a pink umbrella while wearing a pink swimsuit? The rhythm and rhymes in the book makes it fun to read. There is also counting in the book as more and more pugs join in on the ride. The pugs go on an adventure, win a dog show, chase some squirrels — you know, the usual — and then they go home. The book ends with the first pug washing his car and thinking about doing it all again next year.
Cute story, lots of fun to read. For example,
Six pudgy pugs
in a flash-dash Bug
Passing hounds on bikes
Beagles on their tirkes
Beep beep!
Bow wow!
Almost there!
It’s a great book to read. Carolyn Crimi is the same author that wrote one of my favorites: Henry and the Crazed Chicken Pirates and also Where’s My Mummy? She’s fun and she really gets what kids and parents like to read. She’s definitely got our number.
