Milo’s Hat Trick by Jon Agee

Highly Recommended!  This book is WONDERFUL!

Wow, what a book!  I grabbed this book today at the library.  It was one of those random off the shelf grabs as I was exiting the children’s section of the library.  I had never heard of this book and I had no idea what it was about.  I really lucked out with this one.

This book is about Milo the magician.  He isn’t a very good magician and his boss tells him he needs to get better or else.  He goes out in search of a rabbit so he can pull a rabbit out of his hat for his act– and finds a bear instead.  The bear can disappear into and reappear from a hat (a rabbit taught him how) and he volunteers to help Milo out.  Milo and the bear become a great success.  The bear then needs to go hibernate.  Milo takes him back to the woods and the bear goes to sleep.  Milo returns to performing by disappearing into and reappearing from a hat (a bear taught him how).

It is such a sweet book.  The illustrations are fantastic.  The characters are admirable and good-hearted.  We read it several times.  We’ll read it several more times, I’m sure.  This is a true gem of a book.

  2. This was one of my favorites growing up! I remember begging my mom to read this multiple times in one sitting. It’s so good to see that books have and will not go out of relevance. I hope classics like these may be remembered for years to come. Thank you for the review that helped me reminder the premise of the book.

    • We read this one just the other day. I was so sad to see that this book is out of print! I picked up a copy used — but I am hoping that this one will go back into print. It is one of our favorites.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I’m so glad you love this book, too!
