Ship Ahoy by Peter Sis

This is a simple picture book about a boy sitting on a couch imagining that the couch is a raft, canoe, ship, ocean liner.

After reading it through once I didn’t think too much of it.  It is a fine book, but nothing that blew me away.  My son, however, had me reread this book with him four times.  The only reason we didn’t go for a fifth is that it was his nap time.  I am sure we’ll be looking at the book again once he wakes up.

The more times I read through this book, the more I liked it.  There’s a lot to talk about in the pictures and I won’t be surprised if my son turns our couch into some kind of flotation vessel.

Oh, full disclosure:  My son LOVES the vacuum cleaner.  He’s loved it since he was a baby.  As soon as he learned to walk he wanted to vacuum — and there is a vacuum cleaner at the end of this book.  Boats + vacuum cleaners = A real win with my son.  His passion for vacuum cleaners may be influencing his love and interest in this book.
